Jim and Pam on the office season 5?

Ok in the premier Jim proposed, and in the third one they were like "off" and then in the 4th episode it was pam out with her friends until 8:30 am. And then Jim drives to new york but then turns around and says hes not that type of guy or couple. What is this all about?
